Popularity

Popularity is self proclaimed. Who are the "popular" kids anyway?

They are the kids who believe themselves to be popular. The truth is they are well known. Whereas, popular means well liked. Popular, is an ice cream flavor that runs out first because a lot of people like it and order it.

In this culture though, the "popular kids" are not necessarily and in fact, usually, not the most well liked. They are merely the ones who believe themselves to be the "coolest" and therefore, the most "popular". They are elitist, exclusive, and snobby. None of the traits that actually make people well liked.

I find it humorous in a ha-ha sort of way that even in grad school there are these so-called "popular" kids. It is a testament to the fact that these kids have not matured into adults. That is why going straight from undergrad to grad school is dangerous: you lose the opportunity to mature socially. A seamless stream of schooling from kindergarten onwards to grad school is highly inadvisable for many reasons, this being on of the more trivial ones.
