Weird Coincidences

I believe in signs. Some of them are so blatant and in your face, they leave little room for interpretation.

Three days ago while trying to take a nap, words upon words crashed one after another into my tired mind. I tried to shield myself, I just wanted to plummet into the oblivion of sleep, but they hurled themselves at me with such great force I had to get up and write them down.

The title of the poem was Love Letter to Myself. Although it is unfinished I had the intention of posting it onto this blog. Funny thing is, today as I was rummaging through Youtube for old Def Jam Poetry clips I ran into this. It's called, "Love Poem to Myself". To say it spoke to me is a grossly exaggerated understatement. It pierced me, embraced me, smashed into me.

I don't know this woman (Ishle Park), but I do. Something very real and visceral reached out of time-space and cyberspace and grasped me. And again, I was reminded of the power of art to connect, the purpose of art to connect, and simply the ability of people to connect.

Love

Love is the afternoon sun bathing a single leaf
It's a friend calling you at 2 am
It's your brother surprising you with a visit
It's a stranger's smile spreading joy through your soul

Love is the confusion of truth and the clarity of ambiguity

Love is the depth of sweetness, the pinnacle of grief and everything in between

Metamorphosis

Life has felt strange these last few days. I feel as though I'm getting to know a new person. That person is me.

I feel like I'm breaking in a new pair of jeans, except I'm the pair of jeans. You know, how brand new jeans are: a bit stiff and ambiguous. And over many wears they slowly wrinkle here and bulge there adjusting to your unique lines, curves and movements. After many, many wears they even assume your shape when you're not wearing them. In fact, even after washing and drying them they maintain the imprint of your body. At this point it's as if they were custom made for you. Your body has essentially reshaped their fibers.

And so, I am like a new pair of jeans getting to know what seems like, and probably is, a different me.
